Trucker For Life Editorial Standards

Last updated: October 17, 2026

Trucker For Life publishes free guides for professional truck drivers on DOT physical requirements, retirement planning, life insurance and living benefits. This page explains how we research, check and update those articles, and how the site makes money.

The Short Version

Every rule, number and requirement in our articles is checked against the original government source, such as FMCSA, the eCFR, the IRS or the Social Security Administration. We list those sources on the page, show when each article was last updated, and keep regulation separate from guidance so you know what's law and what's an examiner's judgment call.

Why Trucker For Life Exists

Trucker For Life was started by the son of a truck driver. When his father passed away, the life insurance he had in place gave the family stability during a hard time and helped them buy a home. That experience is the reason the site exists: to give drivers clear, accurate information about protecting their health, income and families, written for life on the road.

What We Cover

How Our Articles Are Researched

1.

Primary sources only

Claims about FMCSA rules and the DOT physical are checked against the regulation itself (the eCFR), FMCSA's website or the current Medical Examiner's Handbook. Figures like Social Security benefits and IRS contribution limits come from the agency that publishes them. We don't rely on other blogs, forums or summaries, even ones that cite the right source.

2.

Every claim is matched to a source

Before an article is published, each factual claim, including those in tables, examples and FAQs, is listed alongside the exact source text that supports it. If a claim can't be supported by an authoritative source, we narrow it to what the source says or take it out.

3.

A separate fact-check

Each draft goes through a separate review against these same sourcing rules before it's published. Problems found in that review are fixed first.

4.

Regulation and guidance kept separate

Federal regulations are law. FMCSA's Medical Examiner's Handbook is guidance, and FMCSA says its recommendations don't have the force of law. Our articles say which is which, and we don't turn an examiner's "may" into a "will."

5.

Dated and updated

Each article shows a "Last updated" date that reflects a real change to its content. When a rule changes or a yearly figure is updated, we revise the article and its date.

How We Use AI

We use AI tools to help research, draft and fact-check our articles. The sourcing rules above apply to everything we publish, however it was drafted: every regulatory claim has to match a primary source before it goes live.

What Our Articles Are, and Aren't

Educational Information, Not Advice

Our articles are general information. They are not medical, legal, tax or financial advice, and they are not reviewed by physicians, medical examiners, attorneys or tax professionals unless an article says so. Only a certified medical examiner can decide whether you meet the DOT physical standards. Talk to your doctor, examiner, tax professional or a licensed advisor about your own situation.

How Trucker For Life Makes Money

Trucker For Life is supported by connecting drivers with licensed insurance professionals. When you request a quote or call, we may be compensated. We keep informational articles separate from sales content: our DOT physical guides don't include insurance pitches, and we don't name or recommend specific insurance companies in our articles.
